A catechism is the name given to a written work that contains a summary of all the Beliefs of the Faith that is used as a teaching tool. To say it with the words of Pope St. John Paul II: “In reading the "Catechism of the Catholic Church, we can perceive the Wonderful Unity of the Mystery of God.”

The Catholic Archdiocese of Arusha delivers Religious Education first of all to Primary and Secondary Schools as well Colleges. Secondly, it ensures proper catechumenate is initiated and organized in the Parishes and in the Mission Stations.

The Archdiocese also provides ongoing training for the catechists (religious teachers), supporting them in their teachings, and evaluation of their work. In addition, coaching seminars and self-development courses are offered. The responsible department is headed by Religious Sr. Salvatrix John (CDNK) assisted by Catechist Frank Mollel. Sr. Salvatrix John is also the Chairperson of the Catechetical Committee.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church is arranged in four parts:

• The Profession of Faith

• The Celebration of the Christian Mystery

• The Life in Christ and

• The Christian Prayer
